Captain Harvey Geisler is the Commanding Officer of the USS Black Hawk-A.

Background

Early Life

Born Harvey Elmer Geisler on 24 March 2347 to parents James and Maggie Geisler of Earth. Harvey was the last of three children; the eldest being his sister, Samantha, 14, and then his brother Ivan, 12. Both James and Maggie were heavily involved in medicine; James worked several private firms in Research Departments while Maggie was an Emergency Room Operator at Denver Medical Center. Their careers meant that they spent as little time at home as possible, meaning that they spent very little time with their children.

Samantha and Ivan found ways to get along fine without their parents—and without Harvey. Having lived at home for most of their lives, the teenagers often left young Harvey alone while they went to parties, got drunk, and got in trouble. Most of Harvey’s parental time came solely when Mom or Dad brought Samantha or Ivan or both home from various encounters with the law. Utimately, neither of the eldest children learned from their mistakes, forcing James and Maggie to allow their admittance to a correctional facility.

Determined to not let Harvey cause as much grief as Samantha or Ivan, James and Maggie began to take him to their workplace daycare center. Naturally, little Harvey used some lessons learned from Sam and Ivan. He could often be spotted out of the daycare center and hovering near James and Maggie. Their efforts to keep him in daycare were in vain as he continuously escaped, not just to be with Mom and Dad, but to watch what they were doing.

Over the years, Harvey’s interest in science and medicine grew to the point that he was hired by his father’s favorite firm, BioDynamic Pharmaceuticals, at age 15. For five years he worked on various projects, but found that the lifestyle just didn’t suit him. After thinking it over for several weeks, and on impulse, he went down the street to the Starfleet Recruitment Office, and applied for the Academy.

At age 21, Harvey became the oldest student in his class. He spent a year dabbling in different majors, both in advanced science and frontier medicine. Finally, he settled on a double major in Research Medicine and Battlefield Medicine.

Starfleet Career

In 2370, Harvey was assigned to the Excelsior-class USS Logos to assist with a system-wide quarantine in the Lypha system due to a widespread outbreak of Edlund’s Syndrome. He was influential in finding a cure for the syndrome. He was sent back to Starbase 211 a few months later as a team leader in part of a new branch in the Medicinal Research Department.

In 2372, he married Lieutenant (JG) Alison Michaels, a fellow researcher in his department.

The Dominion War

Almost immediately after their wedding, the Dominion War began. Starbase 211 was soon overrun by Cardassian and Dominion forces. Fortunately, Starfleet sent an evacuation force as well as several Marine transports to defend the base until it was cleared. Harvey and Alison both were still aboard the starbase when the Dominion fleet arrived. The attack was swift and deadly, but they managed to board one of the retreating Marine transports carrying almost an entire division’s worth of wounded. The fleet fell back to Betazed where every blue-collared Starfleet officer or enlisted person was put to task with triage. Reports began to come in with news of the advancing Dominion fleet towards Betazed. The wounded began to be evacuated without their surgeons.

Harvey and Alison were still on Betazed as the Dominion Fleet arrived and overran the planet. At the time, they were in different triage centers. Alison’s center was taken out in the initial attack, and her body was never recovered. Harvey’s entire medical unit was captured and put to work in Cardassian triage center to take care of wounded Federation civilians and Cardassian soldiers. After five weeks of imprisonment, and finally learning about Alison’s fate, Harvey decided to take a page out his older siblings’ playbook. With some stolen firearms, he single-handedly led five doctors and eleven civilians to a Cardassian occupied landing pad and stole a cargo shuttle. With a change of luck, a couple of the civilians were able to falsify enough orders to get them near the Federation border and across to safety.

Harvey was immediately put back into service aboard the Marine Transport USS Delaware as Chief Medical Officer. He saw combat for the next couple years and to the end of the war. Due to the huge personnel shortage that the entire Starfleet suffered throughout the war, Harvey was transferred to the Saber-class USS Angelica to serve as Executive Officer at the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He was bounced back and forth through various ships for CMO and XO stints for the duration of the war.

After The Dominion War

Once the war was over and Starfleet began rebuilding, Harvey returned to medicine. He served on the Benjamin Franklin and the Logos, two ships instrumental in supplying aid to Cardassian refugees and rebuilding border planets.

Tired of the frequent running, Harvey transferred back to Starbase 211 for a short tenure as Chief Medical Officer. Eventually, he returned to his native skills as a researcher, taking over the Medicinal Studies & Research Department he helped to build at the start of the war. For four years, he developed cures, new medical practices and wrote countless papers. But the sight of Betazed out his quarters’ window became too much to bear. He had no intention of resigning, but Harvey had had enough of researching and anything that reminded himself of Alison. He petitioned the Command Academy Adjucant and completed his Command training he had begun in the war. Harvey was then transferred to the USS Schuster as Executive Officer. There he served for two years, quietly and thoroughly maintaining the ship’s crew while the ship explored the borders of the Alpha Quadrant. His final mission aboard took the ship deep into a nebula that nearly destroyed the ship through a chance encounter with the Tholians. Injured, Harvey took a medical leave of absence from Starfleet to recover and reevaluate his life.

With nothing to do and no way to deal with the pain any more, Harvey set foot on Betazed for the first time since his imprisonment. He visited the site where Alison was last seen and where a newly built hospital stood. After a few weeks of research, he discovered that Alison had been vaporized in the attack, never having suffered. Harvey paid his respects to a monument erected after the war and elected to remain on Betazed for the duration of his leave.

Coming off his leave in late-2387, a promotion came from Starfleet to position of Commanding Officer of the USS Black Hawk, which brought Harvey to a welcome, though very unfamiliar, change of pace.

USS Black Hawk

Harvey assumed command of the USS Black Hawk in December of 2387, bound for the Gamma Quadrant as a part of Task Force 9. His first mission was to retrieve an out-of-contact Research Team in the Altair system. During the eventful retreival, the Black Hawk encountered the Golden Stars for the first time. With permission from TF9 Command, Harvey led the Black Hawk deeper into the Gamma Quadrant to uncover more information. He was promoted to Captain during this search.

In April 2388, the Black Hawk was boarded by a group known as The Syndicate, an organization seeking to discredit and destroy the Golden Stars. Harvey was immediately captured but soon engineered his own escape and soon after the full defense of his vessel. A few days later, the Black Hawk located the origin of the Golden Stars and confronted and defeated The Syndicate at the same time. The Black Hawk relocated the survivors of the Golden Stars to a remote system and returned to TF9 Patrolled Space.

By this time, The Consortium had already completed The Event. None the wiser, Harvey accepted a mission to confront the USS O'Carroll and capture Commodore Zachary O'Connell. In his attempt to do so, Harvey learned the truth. Consortium agents aboard the Black Hawk revealed themselves. One of them shot Harvey in an attempt to keep him silent. Fortunately, the crew of the Black Hawk were quick to apprehend the agents and restore the proper command structure to the ship. Afterwards, Harvey began to quietly date the ship's medical officer, Lt. Cmdr. [[Jayla Kij]. The relationship didn't last long as Harvey chose it was best to start rediscovering himself before entering a romantic relationship. Shortly thereafter, Lieutenant Joelle Corwin was assigned to the USS Black Hawk, and a relationship naturally began to develop.

Harvey boldly commanded the Black Hawk through the Consortium crisis. At the Battle of Deep Space 11, he was in command of the starship when it was fatally wounded by the USS Sovereign. As the ship was abandoned, he and his first officer, Commander Teixeira, stayed with the ship until everyone was off the ship. They beamed out just before it crash landed.

USS Black Hawk-A

After enjoying a couple months of shore leave with his bride-to-be Joey, Harvey was summoned back to active duty and given the command of the USS Black Hawk-A. Upon taking command, Harvey learned the reason for his sudden reactivation was due to a discovery from the Finnean Convergence Zone. A probe, dated to be over one hundred years old, emerged carrying a message from his future self. Following logic, sometime in 2389, Harvey would launch a probe, which would take one hundred years to reach Federation space and take a journey into the past to be discovered in 2388. In order to gain the first clues of his future destiny, Harvey would have to complete a mission at Finnea Prime and recover the probe which had been stolen by the Followers of Dolmoqour.

Once the probe was recovered, at a high cost to the Finnean people, Harvey and Joey Corwin, the ship's Chief Intelligence Officer and his fianceé, were wed aboard Deep Space 15. Shortly before that, he and Joey had learned that she had conceived during their furlough on Earth. In November 2388, they learned that she was carrying twins, one boy and one girl. Due to the parameters of the mission, Harvey remained focused on the mission at hand, often delaying preparing for the childrens' arrival in favor of researching raw intelligence or theorizing about the Great Conflict they were learning about. For several months, the mission consumed Harvey, culminating in an attempted takeover of the Black Hawk on March 29, 2389 by a parasitic species known as the Dolmoqour. Over the course of a day, Harvey was forced to evade both capture and death at the hands of infected crew members, including his pregnant wife. Harvey escaped the Black Hawk aboard the Runabout Mississippi in order to launch the probe to reset the time loop, and was injured in the process. With the aid of the Guardians, Harvey returned to the Black Hawk with technology to free his crew from the parasites. During this, he was forced to fire upon his own wife, and managed to free her too in the process. His action had an unexpected side effect, launching his wife into premature labor.

Throughout the rest of 2389, Harvey worked with the Guardians and Starfleet in order to bring about changes to the quality of life to the Convergence Zone. Harvey then returned with the Black Hawk to Gamma Command orbiting New Bajor where the ship was docked and entered a massive refit. He and Joey took leave to Earth for a few weeks, and returned soon thereafter to supervise the refit. During this time, Harvey also assisted Admiral Zachary O'Connell with some tasks at Gamma Command.

On January 6, 2390, the Black Hawk was cleared for departure, and Captain Geisler again led the ship back out into the unknown.

Relationships

Alison Michaels

Alison Michaels, Harvey's first wife

Harvey first met Lt. JG Alison Michaels as she was transferred to Starbase 211 near Betazed. She was the second-in-command of the Research Department aboard (Harvey was the Director), yet Harvey soon saw more in her than any other officer. If Alison were able to comment on the matter, she would say otherwise (and Harvey would reluctantly agree). It was Alison who first cracked Harvey's shell and turned him into a likable person, finally marrying him.

Soon after, the Dominion War broke out and fighting reached Betazed. Starbase 211 was overrun and Starfleet forces retreated to Betazed. Harvey landed on one side of the planet, and Alison the other. Weeks past without hearing from her, which was to be expected as the Dominion had taken over the planet. Harvey went on a search to find that Alison's landing site and hospital had been razed by the Dominon. Alison had been vaporized instantly, never knowing what hit her or feeling pain.

Harvey managed to escape Betazed, but was never the same. He walled himself off to everyone and everything and surrendered himself to the uniform. Since then, he has never allowed anyone to get close.

Regarding Harvey's and Alison's relationship, please read:

Adam Casey

Harvey first knew Adam while they were Chief Medical Officer and Chief Science Officer, respectively, of the USS Logos. Upon returning from a Medical Conference, Harvey's shuttle experienced a malfunction and crash landed on a planet occupied by a pre-warp civilization. The planet featured a ionized atmosphere, making transporter functionality impossible, and the crash site was too close to the civilization. Rather than wait for an official plan, Lt. Casey took a shuttlecraft and rescued Harvey himself. This action cost Adam his commission.

Harvey was reunited with Adam years later on New Risa. In need of a Chief Science Officer, Harvey extended a battlefield commission to his long-lost friend.

C. Mackenzie Kos

C. Mackenzie Kos was the Black Hawk's third Executive Officer under Harvey's command. She is credited for being the first to start "warming the ice" to get Harvey to snap out of his decade-long funk and begin to open up to the crew. While serving with Harvey, she began to develop feelings for him. Unfortunate circumstances caused Mac to develop some severe mental trauma, forcing her to take an extended medical leave of absence.

Before she left, Mac confessed her feelings to Harvey. As Harvey was seeing Jayla at the time, he did not return his feelings.

Jayla Kij

Main Article: Jayla Kij

Harvey first noticed something about Jayla Kij the moment he met her. While he was stressed about the Black Hawk after it was boarded and feeling contemplative after being shot by a Consortium agent, Jayla was the first person to come to his side. Only a couple months after they met, their relationship became physical. Their relationship never amounted to more than that. A month after it began, both Harvey and Jayla mutually agreed to end it to allow Harvey to continue rediscovering himself. Harvey vowed to remain single until he was ready once again for a relationship.

Mila Rasputin

Mila has become more than Harvey's yeoman; she is his confidant. Though their friendship is just beginning, Harvey has trusted her more than anyone on board the ship.

Joey Corwin Geisler

Main Article: Joey Geisler

Lieutenant Joelle Corwin was transferred to the USS Black Hawk during the Consortium Crisis, shortly before the ship's voyage to the Hadyn Nebula. By luck, an opportunity presented itself to her. She has made it a mission to help Harvey Geisler break out of his shell, and has done so in a variety of ways (and enlisting the aid of some of the crew in the process). While preparing for the mission in the Hadyn Nebula, Harvey and Joey found themselves romantically interested in each other. On the eve of battling the USS Cochrane and the USS Chimera, both agreed to start dating. Their relationship evolved over the next couple of weeks and they were soon living together.

Following The Consortium Crisis, Harvey and Joey soon found themselves engaged and expecting twins. On November 12, 2388, Harvey and Joey were married on Deep Space 15. Their twins, Jameson and Alison, were born at the climax of their mission inside the Finnean Convergence Zone on March 29, 2389.
