Command
- Chief Medical Officer
- Classification: Officer
- Description:
The Chief Medical Officer is responsible for the physical health of the entire crew, but does more than patch up injured crew members. His/her function is to ensure that they do not get sick or injured to begin with, and to this end monitors their health and conditioning with regular check ups. If necessary, the Chief Medical Officer can remove anyone from duty, even a Commanding Officer. Besides this s/he is available to provide medical advice to any individual who requests it. - Additionally the Chief is also responsible for all aspect of the medical deck, such as the Medical labs, Surgical suites and Dentistry labs. S/he also is a department head and a member of the Senior Staff and responsible for all the crew members in her/his department and duty rosters.
- Assistant Chief Medical Officer
- Classification: Officer
- Description:
A starship or facility has numerous personnel aboard, and thus the Chief Medical Officer cannot be expect to do all the work required. The Asst. Chief Medical Officer assists Chief in all areas, such as administration, and application of medical care. On board the Black Hawk, the ACMO doubles as a physician.
- Chief Counselor
- Classification: Officer
- Description:
Because of their training in psychology, technically the ship's/facility's Counselor is considered part of Starfleet medical. The Counselor is responsible both for advising the Commanding Officer in dealing with other people and races, and in helping crew members with personal, psychological, and emotional problems. The Chief Counselor is considered a member of the Senior Staff. S/he is responsible for the crew in his/her department. The Chief Counselor is the Counselor with the highest rank and most experience.

Medicine
- Physician / Medical Officer
- Classification: Officer
- Description:
Medical Officers, or Physicians, undertake the majority of the work aboard the ship/facility, examining the crew, and administering medical care under the instruction of the Chief Medical Officer and Assistant Chief Medical Officer also run the other Medical areas not directly overseen by the Chief Medical Officer.
- Physician's Assistant
- Classification: Officer
- Description:
Filling a role between doctor and a regular nurse, a physician’s assistant were trained medical personnel that had attended medical school, but were not full doctors. Unlike nurses, however, they had sufficient training to diagnose and treat most minor to moderate conditions, and could make medical recommendations as well as prescribe medications. For more complex or life-threatening conditions, the physician’s assistant would call in a full doctor and then provide assistance. Nurse Practitioners were always Ensigns or higher in rank, never NCOs.
- Medical Technician

- Description:
Medical Technicians spend most of their time in the medical labs, running various experiments on samples, ranging from tissue to organs. They are often charged with uncovering the source behind an illness.
- Pediatric Specialist
- Classification: Officer
- Description:
The Pediatric Specialists have one of the best, and probably most rewarding jobs as part of the Medical department. They help to oversee the delivery of babies, and then oversee their treatment and care, for as long as they are on the ship or until they reach adulthood.
- Trauma Specialist
- Classification: Officer
- Description:
The Trauma Specialist is held by a Medical officer who is knowledgeable in all forms of medical treatment as it relates to dealing with traumatic injuries, or injuries acquired during combat or hostile situations. This crew member is the first to attend to such victims, and is one of the few who can commandeer sections of the ship to turn it into a triage.
Surgery

- Description:
Doctors of the federation still specialize and mostly, the Chief Medical Officer position is usually held by a general practitioner. While simple surgery is part of their training, some doctors on larger vessels and starbases prefer to have a surgeon on staff.
- Surgical Technician
- Classification: Enlisted
- Description:
The Surgical Specialist is a Medical officer who is highly skilled as a surgeon. This individual is involved in all surgical consults, and performs surgery on crew members when necessary.
Nursing
- Head Nurse
- Classification: Officer
- Description:
The Head Nurse oversees all the Nurses currently aboard, ensuring they are assigned to tasks and working as required in their area. Additionally the Head nurse performs the normal duties of the nurse, assisting the Duty Medical Officer in sickbay.
- Nurse
- Classification: Officer
- Description:
Nurses are trained in basic medical care, and are capable of dealing with less serious medical cases. In more serious matters the nurse assists the medical officer in the examination and administration of medical care, be this injecting required drugs, or simply assuring the injured party that they will be ok. The Nurses also maintain the medical wards, overseeing the patients and ensuring they are receiving medication and care as instructed by the Medical Officer.

- Description:
A nurse trained to assist a Doctor or Surgical Specialist in a surgery.
Dental
- Dentist
- Classification: Officer
- Description:
A Dentist is an officer or enlisted who provided personal care of a person's teeth. Dentistry was known to be painful to a handful of species.
- Dental Hygienist
- Classification: Enlisted
- Description:
A dental hygienist performed routine cleaning of teeth and provided people instructions on how to care for their teeth, such as not getting them knocked out by an angry Nausicaan.
- Dental Assistant
- Classification: Enlisted
- Description:
A Dental Assistant assisted the dentist or hygienist when caring for a dental patient.
Laboratory
- Pathologist
- Classification: Officer
- Description:
Pathology Specialists have two major functions. First, they are responsible for performing autopsies on deceased crew members, plus preparing the bodies for funeral/memorial services - either on board the ship, or with their families. Second, they are responsible for investigating all airborne threats, including new strains of viruses introduced with the intent of killing many.

A Chief Laboratory Technical sets the protocols and practices in a medical lab and reports to the Chief of Medical
- Senior Laboratory Technician
- Classification: Enlisted
- Description:
Assists the Chief Lab Technician and performs duties in the labs overseeing technicians.

- Description:
