A rifle and the standard large weapon issued to Starfleet personnel, the Type 3 phaser of the 2360s had a 50% greater energy reserve than its Type 2 counterpart, although this increase allowed for longer periods of fire rather than any rise in output levels. The latest and most commonly used version of the Type 3 incorporates a deuterium plasma generator that can be replaced in the field, a twelve stage plasma accelerator, a five stage cascading pre-fire chamber and a transitional-phase pulse accelerator.

Features

  • Firing Type: Beam
  • Size: 1m x 20cm x 20cm
  • Weight: 6kg
  • Range: 250m (accurate) 550m (maximum)
  • Settings: 1-16

Variants

Other variants include the most modern version - the Type 3b - and the compression rifle, which uses pulse compression technology to conjunction with plasma accelerator systems to project toroidal plasma bursts at a significantly faster velocity than previous weapons. This allows a large increase over previous models in power levels and modulation capabilities. Pulse compression rifles utilize biometric control systems and advanced targeting sensor systems capable of tracking and firing through solid objects. This rifle is a perfect multi-purpose weapon that presents the first sustained fire pulse weapon in Starfleet arsenal since the plasma rifle of the early 22nd century. Since the introduction of the Type 3b, however, with its smaller bulk but comparable capabilities, the compression rifle's role has been reduced throughout the fleet.
