Despite knowledge of the mission having remained classified to the absolute top levels of the Task Force and the Akihito being a powerful ship they still had to be careful. It had already been established the Consortium set up patrol routes and while Unity did have the means to track all Consortium movements the radio silence and the need for the location of the ship to remain a secret still meant that they couldn’t just go for a direct route or risk detection. Instead they moved for the planet Enzad in what could be best described as a snail’s pace. Since the end of the war and the resulting state of relative Dominion isolation Enzad had grown to be a major military and diplomatic hub due to its proximity to the core worlds as well as to the independent civilizations closer to the Wormhole. It was there that an approach would be most effective. Of course it also helped that they knew a high profile Vorta there and a planet its significance was likely to even have Founders. They were almost there though.
The long time spent underway had definitely not been unwelcome, Noru had had a lot to read up on relating to the more recent history of the movements. He had always kept somewhat up to date but didn’t have access to the classified information he did now.
“Admiral, we are about to enter likely sensor range of the scouts for the planet” The sound came over the combadge, the voice of the Captain had become quite familiar to Noru over the past few days.
“Thank you Captain, I will be up there in a bit” He responded as he walked to the mirror and made sure his suit looked well, one did after all need to make a proper impression when engaging in diplomacy and sadly despite the formalities he couldn’t quite wear his old uniform anymore.
Upon leaving his Quarters he immediately headed for the turbolift and from there the bridge. As he walked onto it he noticed a surprising silence, though in a way it wasn’t all that surprising. The Dominion War was still fresh in everyone’s mind and the general situation in the Task Force kept everyone on edge. Noru sat down in the empty seat next to the CO and the XO as he looked at the viewscreen. “We have detected a Jem’Hadar Battlecruiser and several fighters. They have also detected us but made no movements yet. We will enter communications range in a minute” Maxine said, to give Noru an update on the situation.
“Once we are in range we should immediately open a channel. The Jem’Hadar still maintain a shoot first mentality and activating our shields would be considered a provocation. Especially with the Dominion likely being aware of what is happening with Starfleet to some extent” Noru responded, Maxine nodded before relaying the orders to the relevant officers on the Bridge.
Once within communications range a channel was immediately opened. “I am Saatyi Noru, acting on behalf of Commodore Scarlet Cameron of the Federation. We are seeking an audience with Eryos to discuss matters of mutual concern to Starfleet and the Dominion. We have no hostile intentions.” Noru said. For about half a minute there was no response while the Akihito remained getting closer to Enzad and the ships. At least they weren’t charging their weapons either so it meant they were probably discussing things with the planet.
“Saatyi Noru, this is Gelvan. Your request for an audience has been approved. On the condition that for the duration of the meeting you surrender your ship to Dominion control” The response was a welcome one and the demand not unexpected. Before the Captain would even get a chance to respond Noru would accept the offer. “Your requirements are acceptable, we will welcome a Jem’Hadar team to the ship”
With that the channel closed and the ship continued its approach. “Are you sure about this? If they double cross us that’s quite some firepower Unity no longer has at its disposal.” Maxine whispered.
“If they double cross us Unity will be lost with or without the ship”
