Starbase Unity, a former Dominion installation, was an asteroid base operated as a forward outpost. The station is mostly a series of structures built on top of an asteroid.
History
Background
Starbase Unity, abandoned in the early 2380s by the Dominion, was taken over and placed under Starfleet control in early 2386. Shortly after Starfleet assumed control, a major overhaul and refit took place, converting the station to Starfleet's standards. These updates primarily focused on removing the Jem'Hadar breeding facilities and turning them into Dilithium processing centers.
The starbase quickly became the center for diplomatic relations and trade within the Northern region of the Gamma Quadrant. Starbase Unity also acts as the main supply depot for Dilithium in the region due to her unique location in a system surrounded by 6 dilithium rich planets.
Consortium
On the Day of The Event, Unity's Marine Commanding Officer attempted to assassinate Commodore Scarlet Cameron. Elsewhere on Unity, Consortium agents sacrificed themselves to destroy the shield generator, leaving the base's command center open to attack by the USS Ottawa. The USS O'Carroll was able to intercept the Ottawa before she was able to destroy the command center.
As it was the only Starfleet installation to not fall to Consortium control, Starbase Unity became the de facto headquarters for loyalist forces. Both Commodore Cameron and Commodore O'Connell transferred their flags to the base and began to coordinate efforts and consolidate forces. These efforts were aided by Vice Admiral Adislo and the Founder Odo who gifted Task Force 9 a covert sensor network that had been quietly laid throughout Task Force 9's area of operation. Using this network, TF9 was able to track Consortium movement.
It was this network that alerted them to an incoming Consortium force. The Task Force had no other option but to defend the starbase with their lives as the Battle of Starbase Unity began. Starfleet put up a strong fight in the beginning, only to be slowly beaten back by attrition. The timely arrival of a Dominion attack wing fully crushed the Consortium wave, allowing the remaining loyalist forces to launch an effort to retake Deep Space 11 and control of the wormhole.
Destruction
In 2390, Starbase Unity was destroyed in a quick attack by an unknown force. All of its attached starships, along with a Jem'hadar cruiser that had arrived to support Unity, were lost in the fight. Survivors were collected by the USS Black Hawk, USS Valcour, and USS Perseus.
