Fresh out of the ion storm and patched up, the USS Valiant is en route to Epsilon Indi IV, home to a Federation science outpost near the Romulan border, to conduct Project EDEN live trials. The scenario: simulate a subspace anomaly that threatens the colony, requiring a coordinated evacuation, resource triage, and a shutdown of a fictional experiment gone wrong.

But as the Valiant drops out of warp, the crew realizes the simulation has been overtaken by a real crisis. Can EDEN handle its first true test? And, more importantly, can the crew of the Valiant survive to warn the Federation that a dark power has shown its wings?

Summary

After surviving a chaotic day, Captain Piraa sh'Zamhlass returns to the USS Valiant's bridge as her crew works to repair damage from an ion storm and earlier sabotage. The new Chief Medical Officer, Dr. T'Razz, reports that the injured are recovering and that the ship’s systems are steadily coming back online. Despite exhaustion, the Captain announces to the crew that Command desires for them to resume their mission after repairs. The Captain, First Officer T'Zara and Chief Engineer Arai agree to enlist the ship’s holographic system EDEN to assist with damage control teams. As departments reorganize (particularly with new assignments in Operations and Science), the Valiant prepares to move forward, its crew regaining rhythm and resolve after a difficult ordeal.
