Flight Deck

The main level of the Flight Deck is located on Deck 10 with the upper level located on Deck 9. The uprated Akira-class has a more secured Flight Deck than it's predecessor.

Deck Layout

The fighter pilots are quartered on Deck 10 which allows quick access to the Flight Deck. Quarters are located on both the port and starboard side of the main flight deck. Pilot to starfighter assignments take into consideration the location of the pilot's assigned quarters. For example, a pilot living on the starboard side of the deck would be assigned to a starfighter on the starboard side.

Access from the living quarters to the Flight Deck is via four entry points noted as Fighter Pilot Secure Access Points (FiPSAP) located at the four corners of the main deck. It requires voice authentication, the pilot's authorization code, and a quick biosignature scan for Flight Deck access. Sensors in the FiPSAP will scan the biosignature and match it to the voice print and authorization on file. If the match fails, a forcefield is erected until follow-up measures can be taken. This transpires in a matter of seconds and any wait time is negligible. In the event of an emergency, a Yellow Alert, Red Alert, or group of pilots, the system will keep the doors to the Flight Deck open and store biosignature access readings in a batch for later analysis.

The Fighter Pilot and Maintenance Crew Locker Room is located in the center of the Flight Deck in the forward position. Access to the locker room is granted directly from the Flight Deck and via the turbolift. Authorization codes of assigned personnel are required to access the locker room from the turbolift as the room has direct access to the Flight Deck. This prohibits unauthorized access.

The Antechamber and Flight Deck Observation is the secured access point to the Flight Deck for most other personnel assigned to the USS Black Hawk-B. The older Akira's turbolift deposited directly into the middle of the Flight Deck. An update to the refit gives a more secure antechamber that allows for safer interactions and security before stepping out onto the deck. There is a desk, staffed on a rotational basis, and several couches and chairs in the immediate area. Two large observation ports located on the port and starboard walls allow individuals to view the activity on the Flight Deck at any given time. Access to the deck from the Observation room is through a single door.

There are four Fighter Ordinance Storage depots on Deck 10; two port and two starboard. Each depot is a mixture of the various munitions pods and ordinance that can be used on the Valkyrie-class starfighter in support of it's mission roles. Ordinance includes, but is not limited to, micro torpedoes, ground attack munitions, and non-lethal anti-personnel munitions.

External access to Deck 10 is through two large bay doors, one fore and one aft. The two access points facilitate rapid deployment of the Valkyrie fighters and support craft.

Underneath the Flight Deck (Deck 11) is Shuttle Storage and Maintenance, the Squadron Mess Hall, the Engineering & Fighter Workshop, the Fighter Pilot Briefing Area, and the Fighter Pilot Command Area & Offices.
