Operations Command Positions

Chief Operations Officer

Classification: Officer

Description:
The Chief Operations Officer has the primary responsibility of ensuring that ship functions, such as the use of the lateral sensor array, do not interfere with one and another. S/he must prioritize resource allocations, so that the most critical activities can have every chance of success. If so required, s/he can curtail shipboard functions if s/he thinks they will interfere with the ship's current mission or routine operations.

The Chief Operations Officer oversees the Operations department, and is a member of the senior staff.

Assistant Chief Operations Officer

Classification: Officer

Description:
The Chief Operations Officer cannot man the bridge at all times. Extra personnel are needed to relive and maintain ship operations. The Operations Officers are thus assistants to the Chief, fulfilling his/her duties when required, and assuming the Operations consoles if required at any time.

The Assistant Chief Operations Officer is the second-in-command of the Operations Department, and can assume the role of Chief Operations Officer on a temporary or permanent basis if so needed.

Computer Officer

Classification: Officer

Description:
An Operations Officer in this capacity is responsible for the full functionality of data passing through all systems onboard a station or ship. Similar to an engineer, they can be assigned to repair or diagnose the loss or mismanagement of data. They may also be responsible for data encryption and storage/retrieval. Role play positions can include: Main Computer Maintenance, Data Encryption Specialist, Records Officers/Specialists

Communications Positions

Senior Communications Officer

Classification: Officer

Description:
A Communications Officer is responsible for the delivery and transmission of all incoming and outgoing communications aboard ship or station. Many officers in this field have a strong degree of skill in encrypting or decrypting a message and are often called on away missions.

Communications Officer

Classification: Officer

Description:
Responsible for allocating communication channels for use, including internal and external ship communications. Also oversees updating the ship's/station's universal translator, and those built into the combadges, with any new languages and translations as they are made available.

Communications specialist was a rating given to crewmen and non-commissioned officers who were responsible for the maintenance and operation of communications equipment aboard Starfleet vessels.

Cryptography Officer

Classification: Officer

Description:
A cryptographer is a cybersecurity professional who uses encryption codes to protect data and other sensitive information. They may also break existing codes to better understand algorithms and their use in information security. Cryptographers are one type of role within the cybersecurity field, and they provide technical support to private businesses and government agencies to solve security issues.

Linguistics Officer

Classification: Officer

Description:
A chief linguistics officer is in charge of all linguistic sciences aboard a starship. Starfleet utilized linguistic officers in unexplored or under-explored areas of space where many first contact situations may arise.

Sensor Officer

Classification: Officer

Description:
Sensor specialist was a rating given to crewmen and non-commissioned officers who were responsible for the maintenance and operation of sensors aboard Starfleet vessels.

Environmental Systems Officer

Classification: Officer

Description:
The Environmental Officer is a position on board either a Starship or Starbase or other such facility that acts as a separate position to the Engineering department. The monitor the environment on the Starship or Starbase or other facility and maintain an atmosphere so all can live. These officers can also adjust the Starfleet facility to accommodate an Alien environment. The Chief Environmental Officer coordinates with the Engineering department for it's needs.

Environmental Systems Specialist

Description:
Environmental technician was a rating given to crewmen and non-commissioned officers who were responsible for the maintenance and operation of environmental controls aboard Starfleet vessels.

Life Support Technician

Classification: Enlisted

Description:
Life support technician was a rating given to crewmen and non-commissioned officers who were responsible for the maintenance and operation of life support systems aboard Starfleet vessels.

Power Distribution Management

Classification: Enlisted

Description:
An Operations Officer in this capacity is responsible for ensuring main power and auxiliary power systems are balanced throughout systems onboard a station or ship. In an emergency situation, an operations officer's assignment is to divert any non-essential power to areas of the ship that power is most needed. Serves as a back-up to Engineering on the Bridge.

Transporter Positions

Transporter Systems Officer

Classification: Officer

Description:
This individual is responsible for every one of the ship's transporter pads, both cargo and personnel. The Transporter Chief reports to the Chief Operations Officer.

Transporter Chief

Classification: Enlisted

Description:
An NCO well versed with the transporter and its system, these chiefs work hand-in-hand with the Engineering department, are quick thinkers and skilled at repairing the complex transporter systems aboard any ship/station.

Supply & Steward Positions

Quartermaster

Classification: Officer

Description:
The Quartermaster specializes in distributing supplies and provisions to personnel aboard the vessel. In addition, the Quartermaster controls all physical assignments to quarters throughout the vessel.

Inventory & Logistics Specialist

Classification: Officer

Description:
An Operations Officer in this capacity is responsible for the management of resources a ship or station uses. Other departments often report to this department to request, order and submit for these resources. They also report periodically to submit lists of resources currently in possession in the event that they are needed elsewhere. They are also responsible for maintenance and repair operations and assisting Engineering in the development and implementation of repairs and upgrades. Role play could include Inventory Management, Maintenance Officers/ Specialists, Supply/Logistics Officers/Specialists, Ship's Services Officers/Specialists.

Supply Clerk

Classification: Enlisted

Description:
Supply clerk was a rating given to crewmen and non-commissioned officers who were in charge of procuring and distributing supplies aboard Starfleet vessels.

Materials Specialist

Classification: Enlisted

Description:
Responsible for managing the ship/station stores of supplies, the Materials Officer (also known as a quartermaster) has the tough task of making sure that things get where they are needed when they are needed.

Chef

Classification: Enlisted

Description:
The Black Hawk employs a non-commissioned officer in this role, curating meals for senior staff and diplomatic occasions.

Steward

Classification: Enlisted

Description:
A steward manages accommodation, dining arrangements, and provisions for a ship or station.

Flight Deck/Shuttlebay Positions

The ground crew for each plane is made up of engineers and specialists in different areas of support: Electronic, Mechanical, Ordinance, Engineering and General Support. Along with these NCO’s, a bevy of ground support and operations personnel work behind the scenes to make a squadron into the fierce fighting unit it is.

Chief of Support Craft Operations

Classification: Officer

Description:
The Chief Support Craft Officer of the starship maintains inventory and requisitions of supplies and materiel for both shuttles and the squadron, ranging from replacement fighters and ordinance to field rations and tricorders. A miracle worker in combat situations, the logistics officer has the hard job of keeping everyone supplied and thus, happy.

Shuttlebay Officer

Classification: Officer

Description:
The Support Craft Officer has the daunting task of coordinating the launch and retrieval of shuttles and fighters from takeoff to passage through their air/space to a craft’s landing. The Flight Operations Officer also maintains sensor data on the base facilities surrounding airspace, including weather/stellar information and data on craft in the area.

Shuttlebay Specialist

Classification: Enlisted

Description:
The Support Craft Specialist assists the Flight Operations Officer where needed and is authorized to act as a Flight Deck Officer in his/her supervisor's absence.
