Chabanlon Pollen is a highly addictive drug known to cause hallucinations and relax the nervous system.
The pollen is instantly addictive, corrupting the immune system from the first dose. While a single dose can propel a humanoid into a trance-like state for several hours, it can render an individual almost catatonic for an hour afterwards as the body attempts to regulate itself. As a by-product of the pollen is used to rebuild the individual's body, the trance-like states become shorter and shorter, requiring stronger doses to remain on a high.
Once an individual is addicted, the person can survive for two days without a dose of pollen, though it is not recommended. Sleep will be all but impossible, and muscles will start to seize and lock up. Less than twelve hours following a dose, the individual will exhibit limited memory recall and other functionality.
A treatment is available, but will take nearly six months of regular medical care to overcome. Species such as the Vulcans are not able to completely overcome their effects, requiring regular injections every week to remain functional. Once addicted to pollen, exposed Vulcans will experience pon farr once every year instead of every seven.
