2256

May 11
The Battle of the Binary Stars occurs on the Federation-Klingon border, sparking the start of the Federation-Klingon War.
November 11
The war continues, with Federation casualties tabulated at 8,186 people. The Klingon Empire remains disunited, causing their actions to be unpredictable and invasive. The USS Discovery, using an unknown weapon, becomes the Federation's top responder and asset in the conflict. This lasts only for a short while as the USS Discovery soon disappears and is presumed lost.

2257

January
Federation casualties now number above ten thousand. The twenty-four Klingon houses continue to compete with each other by seeing who can destroy the most assets. Among the new targets are hospitals, civilians, and food convoys.
February
A Klingon house detonates hypothermic charges on Kelfour VI, burning off the planet's atmosphere. Over 11,000 Federation civilians were killed instantly.
April
Starbases 12, 19, and 22 are destroyed, along with one-third of the Federation fleet.
July
Nearly 20 percent of space owned by Starfleet at the start of the war is now occupied by Klingons. The USS Discovery returns from the mirror universe and rejoins the battle. House D'Ghor captures Starbase 1, killing 80,000 civilians and Starfleet officers. Multiple Klingon houses are now mobilized outside the Sol system.
The USS Discovery is sent on special assignment to Qo'noS, the Klingon homeworld. One day later, the planet explodes. The Battle of Earth begins.
August
Every Federation ship is deployed either to Earth, or to defensive positions to slow down Klingon reinforcements. The Constitution Exploration Program is cancelled and all 12 starships are recalled.
After 21 days, the Battle for Earth ends. The Federation lost two hundred starships, and Earth more than 2.47 billion people. The Klingons declare victory. An armistice is signed, with the Klingons being allowed to keep all spoils of the war, including Earth. The Federation is dissolved.
September
Humanity, left without a home, start to resettle in the M-11 system, home of Starbase 11. The remaining Starfleet forces begin to reorganize themselves, re-emerging as humanity's only line of defense and hope. Starfleet's roster includes only fifty starships.

2258

September
Dissolution of the Federation is complete. Starfleet's remaining assets are divided among the former member worlds with the bulk of the space-worthy vehicles left to humanity as a means to survive. Meanwhile, humans who were not on Earth at the end of the war, continue to flock to the M-11 system. By the end of the year, the colony will have grown from 50,000 civilians to 3 million civilians and officers. Attempts at a proper government are made, but conflict arises.
November
Several former Federation members, such as Andoria, Bolius, and Denobula, begin talks of an alliance. Humanity is included, but the nomadic species does not have much to offer.

2260

Humanity settles on an interim republic to govern its people. Plans to retake Earth begin to be floated among the population, now above 11 million, but no action can be taken. Most of the populations suffers from malnutrition and hunger due to lack of food. Starfleet takes up defensive positions around the planet and begin to look for resources with which humanity can trade.

2261

Trade routes are established with several former Federation members. M-11's top export is dilithium while factories are built to refine deuterium, tritanium and other metals.
The Confederation of Worlds is established, an alliance between sixty-five former Federation worlds. A founding tenet of the Confederation is to provide support to M-11 and Starfleet as a pledge to help humanity regain their footing on their surrogate homeworld. Starfleet is also "hired" as a defensive arm for the organization, assigned only to escort convoys and some reconnaissance.

2263

Starfleet's roster has dwindled to thirty-one active starships with one inactive being stripped for parts. 11,000 personnel remain in the service.

2264

M-11 is now home to more than 50 million humans. Quality of life suffered greatly as the vast majority lived either in high-rise apartment buildings (which sadly were poorly constructed and maintained), or in the slums and ghettos constructed near the planet's natural resources, mines, and factories. Seven years of poverty had all but eliminated two centuries of progress. Vulcan historians argued that the state of humanity had now become worse than prior to the Third World War. Raids, theft, and crime were rampant on the planet.
The Tellarites, seeing no profit in the Confederation and no hope in humanity, withdraw from the Confederation.

2270

Governor Abidemi was able to reestablish basic civil rights and started to clean up the slums. This project would took nearly a decade to finish, but at least M-11 citizens could now have access to at least one hot meal a day and a trade to support themselves with. Current estimates project a stable quality of life for the entire population by 2295.

2271

Isolinear technology is developed, but the materials to produce the processors and chips are in short supply.
The Confederation's membership now holds at forty worlds.

2272

Starfleet's roster has been reduced to twenty-six active starships. 7,000 personnel remain in the service. Starfleet's command center reduces in size with several of its buildings converted into housing complexes for civilians.

2275

The Confederation's membership now holds at twenty-eight worlds.

2279

Only nineteen starships comprise the interstellar fleet. Though Abidemi's plans are working, crime is still rampant throughout the planet. Most Starfleet ground forces are assigned to defend mines and factories, along with working within them. Starfleet is also forced to begin using mercenaries to help defend these locations.

2280

June
The Efrosians withdraw from the Confederation, reducing membership to ten worlds.
The USS Callisto collects intelligence that suggests a long-lost Federation starship has been hidden in an asteroid field two lightyears past Starfleet's area of operations in a region of space known as the Triangle. Captain Marty Collins is relieved of command of the USS Chabon and assigned to investigate. Collins' team quickly learn that the rumor is true, but the ship, the USS Lexington has already been discovered by the Orions. The ship is soon cleansed of the Orion threat, and Collins is able to return the ship to M-11 (Episode 1: Fool's Errand).
July
The repaired Lexington is dispatched to former Confederation worlds, hoping to draw them back into the fold in order to provide Starfleet enough funding to make a play for Earth (Episode 2: Waving the Flag).
